MHS Homes praises Dachs mini-chp

Two Dachs mini-CHP (combined heat and power) units, supplied by Baxi-SenerTec UK, were installed at a sheltered housing scheme in Kent in 2002. The units were selected by MHS homes becoming the first housing association in the UK to utilise combined heat and power technology. The Dachs units were installed as part of an upgrade to reduce the costs of providing heating, hot water and electricity to 21 apartments.

MHS homes selected the equipment because it presented them with a new way forward in their quest for energy efficiency and environmental benefits. The small footprint of the Dachs, together with its low noise level and reliability, make it extremely suitable for refurbishment projects. Sheltered housing schemes due to their year round requirement for heat and hot water are an ideal application for the Dachs mini-CHP.

Recently Steve Burt, Mechanical and Electrical Surveyor for MHS homes said:

"This is the 5th year that we have had the CHP units at Elizabeth House, one of our sheltered schemes and in that time it has been a brilliant success. Not only is it a sustainable way of providing energy but it has also greatly reduced the cost for our customers."

The principal of the Dachs mini-CHP is extremely simple. Like a regular boiler, a CHP engine heats the heating system water to approximately 80ºC. However, at the same time it efficiently generates 5.5kw of electricity, which can be used within the building.

Baxi-SenerTec UK, a Baxi Group Company, is the UK supplier of Dachs mini-CHP systems. With more than 17,000 units installed, the Dachs is Europe's market leading mini-CHP product.
